About the Academy
Posted: August 5, 2010
Welcome to the North Shore Health Academy, where our aim is to inspire success and where every student matters. Open in September 2010, we believe we can transform education in north Stockton by ensuring that our young people are given the tools and support they need to succeed in a positive and driven environment. We wish all of our students, governors, teachers and support staff well for the future.
North Shore Health Academy is providing an exciting new learning experience for students between 11-16 years old of all backgrounds, abilities and faiths from the area previously covered by Blakeston School and Norton School.
The Academy delivers a science specialism, with a strong focus on health and well-being, and sport. This specialism promotes students’ understanding of the world in which we all live, with work related learning complemented by the expertise of the sponsors.
The Academy’s Climate for Learning is structured around our Academy Language for learning in the form of the 4Rs:
•Responsibility
•Resourcefulness
•Resilience
•Relationships
These will underpin our common learning language and behaviours in the Academy. The 4 Rs will be central to our vertical tutoring system: drive tutor /student learning conversations and be regularly addressed in Learning Family Assemblies and tutorial time. Our displays and point system will reinforce and reward students exhibiting and practising behaviours in the 4Rs. The 4Rs and the behaviours within them represent the learner dispositions our students should develop and habituate to ensure a positive climate for learning. These learner dispositions will be explicitly taught in the Year 7 Inspiring Healthy Minds Competency Curriculum, developed in our PSHE curriculum and rewarded in our behaviour management strategies.
