 World Challenge is a national programme which provides expedition experiences within the developing world.  It teaches life skills and opens minds to aspects outside of the classroom.

 Approximately 15 Students from North Shore Health Academy will undertake a two year journey raising over £1,600 each for a trip to Ghana.  There, they will spend two weeks working on a community project such as building a play park for children in a Ghanaian village, painting a school or helping to build a well.  They will help young students to read, teach them songs and games and make friends with the local community developing a sense of empathy and understanding.

 The eventual trip will take place in July 2013, however before that time there will be much work to be done to ensure the fund target is reached.  Students must take ownership of the programme and the fund raising, supporting events, coming up with ideas, raising sponsorship outside of the Academy.

 Parents, family and community members will be invited to join the journey, offering advice, expertise and free time in support of the work these students will be undertaking.

 Although we envisage the challenge to be incredibly tough, the benefits and rewards will out weigh the rocky road of our journey and will ultimately turn students into young adults, able and ready to take the next step into the big wide world.

 Students will develop a sense of their own worth, increasing confidence and the ‘can do’ culture.  Taking leadership of a team, delegating and making decisions will be skills they can add to their portfolios ensuring that the Academy’s four Rs ethos of Relationships, Resilience, Resourcefulness and Responsibility are firmly embedded into their future roles as adults.

 As the students firmly grip the reigns of this enormous project they welcome the excitement, adventure and hard work the next two years will bring.  Go Team North Shore!

Christmas Holidays
Our Academy will close for Christmas on Thursday 15 December 2011 at 1.30pm and will reopen on Tuesday 3 January 2012 at 8.30am.

Student Attendance
Attendance at our Academy has improved and is now 90.1%. This is up from 88.9% in the previous academic year.

New Building Information Evening
Can I thank those parents who attended the evening, it was very productive and your comments were welcome. The contractor, Carillion expect to start on site on 11 February 2012 with completion in March 2013. You will be kept informed through our website of progress on this exciting development.

OFSTED Monitoring Visit
On Monday 28 and Tuesday 29 November 2011 we received our first “open academy” monitoring visit. The report on the visit will be published early in the New Year with a parents’ discussion to follow.

End of Term Staff Leavers
Can I thank Miss Cesarano, Miss Helyer, Mrs Whittingham and Mr Johnson for their service to our Academy and their predecessor schools. We wish them every success in their new roles. Our best wishes also to Miss Young in her new role.

New Staff for January
We are delighted to welcome Ms Cooke and Mrs Ward who will join our Science team, Miss Smith who joins us to teach Humanities and Mrs Luck and Ms McGurrin, Advanced Skills Teachers, who join our English team.
We hope these new appointments will reduce the amount of supply teachers which has been a challenge for us in the last year.
