Staff and friends of North Shore took to their bikes to raise funds for World Challenge. The sponsored ride covered 27 miles around Kielder Water tackling some very steep terrain. Everyone completed the course in good time, if a little wobbly in the legs.

Carillion Apprenticeship

Twelve Year 11 students visited Carillion Training School to have a hands-on taste of apprenticeships on offer by Carillion. The 11 boys and 1 girl enjoyed a tour of the training school including the joinery shop, bricklaying shed and ground works area. Explanations by training staff were given about each of the disciplines of construction available. Some boys also were able to try their hand at bricklaying.

Whilst there, interested students were able to apply for an apprenticeship online. Once this is processed students will be asked to take an exam based on maths and english. Successful applicants will then be invited for interview and hopefully offered an apprenticeship with Carillion.

Racing to Africa

Our World Challengers, their families and staff of North Shore had a fantastic night on Friday 27^th April.

Horses, pigs and human bingo were the order of the evening at a Race Night organised to raise funds for the challengers to travel to Ghana in July 2013. Delicious pies and peas, good company and great raffle prizes all contributed to the successful event.

North Shore would like to thank the following companies for their generosity in supporting the event: Middlesbrough Football Club, Hardwick Hall, Blackwells, ARCO, Cafe Maison, Kings Deli, Wynyard Hall, Tesco, Asda.

‘Zumba till you Drop’, was the name of the game at North Shore Health Academy. Staff, students and community members danced their way through a 3 hour sponsored event all in the name of World Challenge.

Almost 50 people took up the challenge to help raise funds for 17 students to travel to Ghana in 2013. Once there they will work on a community project such as building a play park, painting a school or building a well. They will also teach literacy skills to children of a township using resources created by themselves and Tees Achieve prior to the visit.

Although the event was certainly tough, everyone managed to complete it. Mrs Garthwaite and Miss Aldcoin did a fantastic job of teaching the steps and keeping the whole group going.

Mr Jordan, Principal, said. ‘This is a fantastic example of our community, both academy and local, pulling together to a positive outcome. We are thrilled that so much support for our World Challengers is evident. The funds raised will certainly help towards the massive goal of £27,000 needed for the students to realise their visit to Ghana. Well done to all concerned.’

End of Term Arrangements and Y11 Study Sessions

The Academy is closed to students from 12.40pm on Friday 30 March 2012.

It will re-open on Monday 16 April 2012 at 8.30am.

Timetable for Last Day of Term – Friday 30 March 2012

8.30am – Lesson 1 / Gold Final Assembly
9.25am Lesson 2 / Blue Final Assembly
10.20am Brunch Type Break
10.50am Lesson 3 / Green Final Assembly
11.45am Lesson 4 / Red Final Assembly

Students who are on Free School Meals will be given an order form to pre-order their food for break time.

Students will be dismissed from the academy site at 12.40pm

Academy Buses are arriving at 12.40pm
